| I'm going to say that it doesn't matter who is in control. Many of the problems in cities is greedy officials and poor regulations that end up killing industry rather than helping it. Look at Detroit and how the government has shackled the industry to the point that they are considering bailing it out. I'm not up on who all came up with the "shackles" but I'm willing to bet that there were both some Republicans and Democrats involved.
Anyone who pins their hope on government officials is going to be disappointed. This whole problem in the markets now is without a doubt a bi-partisan problem. There is enough blame to go around, it just depends if you are listening to Rush Limbaugh or Keith Olbermann as to where the blame gets thrown. The politicians who are all neck deep in the Washington corruption come from both parties.
As to the democrats wanting everyone to have boots. Sure they do. They just don't want them to know how to tie them. They seem to think that if you give a man a fish every day then he is going to be good to go. What happens though when the fish giver is gone. The man is screwed. If he doesn't ever learn to fish he will eventually starve. I'm all for helping people who need it, but there are too many people who are simply lazy and leech off the rest of us through our government's lack of ability to run anything with any resemblance of efficiency. I don't really want to give the government more power because they seem to screw up everything they touch. I would also take Obama's care for the needy more seriously if he gave more than 1 percent to charity before he got into the national spotlight. It seems to me that he wants the government to do what he should do on his own.
I'm not in love with McCain either, I'm not sure he understands the economy very well, but at least he has been one that would go against his own party if he doesn't think they are doing the right thing. I'm not sure that what he thinks is the right thing is the same as what I do, but I do think that he will actually make unpopular decisions if he thinks they are the right thing to do. Obama seems about as tough on any issue as my grandma. Sorry, but he has not impressed me.
As for lies, lies, lies. They aren't lies, they are simply not a well rounded view of everything. Sort of how those who say that there is a scientific consensus on global warming simply disregard any scientist that disagrees with them. I would have to say lies, lies, and more lies. The simple fact is that both right and left in this country are masters of slant and divisiveness, and most people don't actually study any of this stuff on their own and simply let their talking heads tell them what to think. Every issue has now become a right versus left issue and no one can actually step back and see the issue for what it is. If we actually would stop treating each other as evil and really listen to each other and try to come up with practical solutions that would work to help our problems, we might actually make some real progress.
Maybe I'm too cynical when it comes to politicians, but I've been burned too many times by them to really have much respect for them.

| So in order to keep my xanga site alive, I have to post something.
Ok that was easy.

| Today I got a 17% raise. That makes me happy. We're dog/house sitting for one of Ceri's coworkers this weekend, which means that we will have access to cable tv. ESPN here I come.
Everyone should check out Wilco's new album. If you are against downloading it you should check out their website where you can listen to the whole thing for free. Then you should go buy it Tuesday when it comes out. It's awesome.

| It's weird when one of the staples of one's life is about to change. After five years, I'm going to leave Palen to work full time at Electronic Security. Policies at Palen are changing and I'm ready to only have one job. The hardest thing is letting my students know. I've taught some of them for over three years now and it will be hard to say goodbye. But, I'm excited about only having to go to one job every day. I think it will be a good thing.

| So we were without power for five days, and are finally back in our house. It's nice to be home. My grandparents and a friend of Ceri's from work were kind enough to offer us a warm place to sleep while we were without power. God is good and took care of us.
So I was tagged to tell six weird things about myself.
1. I never planned to lead worship anywhere. 2. Most of my favorite tv shows are no longer on the air. 3. I once cut one of my student's fingers. 4. I am the oldest of five kids with seventeen years between me and my youngest brother. My wife is the youngest of five kids with seventeen years between her and her oldest sister. 5. I like to kick my sister and she misses it when I don't 6. When I go into a building, I analyze how well the alarm is installed.
